“This isn’t charity, its work” is the slogan behind the new Ethical Fashion Africa Project by the Great British Dame, Vivienne Westwood. Driven by the fact that charity is not a permanent solution for World’s major problems such as poverty and female inequality, Vivienne has teamed up with International Trade Center’s Ethical Fashion Programme, and the result is amazing collection which will hopefully make a change in the way things work in Fashion and the World in general. The collection includes handbags and key rings, each of them handcrafted by 7000 Kenyan men and women employed by the British designer. They used eco-friendly, recycled materials such as tent canvas, aluminum, plastic bags and flip flops, creating a brilliant, colorful, tribal inspired collection that abounds with interesting shapes, textures, prints and patterns.
Important fact: The workers are paid proper manufacturing wages, which enables them to pay their medical expenses but it also allows some of their children go to school for the first time.
