She is a 91 year old New Yorker, former architect and socialite, but what is she the most known for is her exquisite and truly extraordinary style which never seizes to inspire. Her whole story is very inspiring. The brilliant lady has proved that you can be over 90 and you can still be the New York’s IT girl…And you probably guess. We are talking about the delightful and ingeniously creative Iris Apfel whose style leaves us truly overwhelmed. Iris has become recognizable for her extravagant fashion choices which are a harmonious yet unusual blend of eye popping colors, furs and prints, always complemented by a pair of massive black rounded glasses, red lips and of course, her impeccably done hair. Her “I dont do minimal” approach to design works perfectly for her fashion as well, so her unexpectedly mixed and matched yet truly inspiring ensembles are always topped off with lots of accessories such as bangles, bracelets, beaded necklaces and brooches.
“If you have your own style, you can wear anything forever. I don’t care about being trendy, so for me, I wear pointy toes if round toes are in. It doesn’t make any difference to me [as long as] I like it”…is what she reveals to be the secret for creating a look that will never fade, adding that “If your hair is done properly and you’re wearing good shoes, you can get away with anything.”
