We’ve just came across Ulyana Sergeenko’s Fall Haute Couture 2012 colletion and we are absolutely and totally in love with it. This utterly talented designer manages to vow us with every collection she creates, and we must admit that she is getting better and better. What she created this time is an absolute feast for the eyes. Retro glam with a hint of bohemia, influenced by her native Russian roots and beloved grandmother is what best describes her Autumn/Winter Haute Couture 2012 line, which takes us into an amazingly creative world of embroideries, bead-works, lovely knits, sweet florals and hand-made laces. The collection features a parade of gorgeous stunners such as full skirts, military coats, cozy sweaters, pants and apron dresses which captivate with their uniqueness and the breathtaking feminine silhouettes. When asked about her style in an interview for Wonderland Magazine, Ulyana would reveal. “It is strongly influenced by my childhood, with all its memories… also, old Soviet cartoons, small towns in Kazakhstan and Russia, family traditions. And then there are movies; it can be anything from Visconti and Fellini to Nikita Mikhalkov and Wong Kar-Wai. I love old Soviet films. Also, I was mesmerised by the way my grandmother looked; I guess she was the one who has influenced my style the most: she wore printed cotton dresses worn with hand-knitted sweaters or cardigans and heels,”…adding “In my work, there are a lot of references to Russian culture, especially Russian cinematography. I find inspiration for my collections in works by Mikhalkov, Kalatozov, Khuziev, Gerasimov. And I like traditional Russian crafts – all those embroideries, bead-works, hand-made laces and knits. They combine naivety with intricacy of technique.”
